Looking Back

Happy New Year! I’ve hit up several foodie adventures in my kitchen and beyond. I need to get crackin’ on those kitchen blogs – baking bread and taking on chicken pot pie.

But first…2009 has been another epic year of eating, drinking and trying new flavors.

Bacon Explosion
In 2009 – we invested in some kick-ass cooking tools: better knives, an iron skillet and one beautiful grill. Our California weather allows us grill nearly all year round. We fired up the grill for our beer-can chicken on New Year’s Eve. For the virgin run on the grill, we made the bacon explosion. The aroma from 2-pounds of bacon, chorizo and Italian sausage smelled amazing from the grill.

Raw Egg

“We’re not opening the front door,” my hubby said.

He was telecommuting and I wanted to spend the day in sweat pants. It was a bit foggy in Vacaville and it felt cold outside.

Bottom line: we wanted to stay holed up in our warm house with our puppy. So I checked out our fridge for supplies:

  • Tortellini
  • Eggs
  • Bacon

Served Raw

As a little girl, I was taught to appreciate fresh fish.
As a teen, I savored spicy tuna rolls and other popular sushi entrees.

As an adult, I now have a craving for good sushi. It’s the perfect intersection of flavor: white rice, fresh fish, a little bit of soy sauce and a touch of wasabi.

Sushi Bistro
I fell in love with the Butterfish Sashimi at Sushi Bistro. Our friends introduced us to this raw fish heaven in the Mission.
