Between Seasons

Waking up to another grey morning in the Bay Area. This weather makes me want to live in sweats, camp out in front of the TV and have a pot simmering on the stove with meat, broth and vegetables.

I dream about sunny days in front of the grill.

My hubby picked up this fancy grilling tray from Sur la Table. We sliced up the portobello mushrooms and red peppers. We added salt, pepper and garlic olive oil to the vegetables. We let everything cook in the metal tray on top of the grill. The vegetables came out tender, with some nice smoky char on the edges.

My MacBook is My Cookbook

Our kitchen must be my favorite room in the house. It’s the source of mouthwatering flavors, heady scents and good times.

Years ago, I used to print out online recipes for my kitchen adventures. Now I bookmark my food inspirations on Delicious and I keep my MacBook open on the dining table while I’m cooking.

I found an easy Chicken Chasseur recipe on Food and Wine’s website.

This hearty hunter’s dish seemed appropriate for the end of the summer.

City girl on the farm

A Foursquare user created a “Stuck in Traffic” location for Highway 92 in Half Moon Bay over the Labor Day Weekend. That windy road to the coast turns into a parking lot on holidays.

The crowds and the cloudy skies convinced us to spend Labor Day away from the beaches. Our innkeeper said we should check out the goat cheese operation at Harley Farms in Pescadero.

Monet
We sampled the creamy Monet and other chèvre products inside the cheese shop. Then we learned about the farm tour:
– Meet the goats!
– Tour the milking stations
– Wander through edible garden
– Make cheese
– Eat cheese

The shop worker had me at “make cheese.” We signed up for the tour.
